Weekend & Halloween Fun

I’m sorry it’s been over a week since I posted! Time has gotten away from me as so much has been going on over here. Last Friday I was off work for some an appointment but met my mom afterward to furniture shop for our new master bedroom. We found some great pieces that I want to take Chris back to see. Decorating is going to be so much fun!

Saturday my cousin got married an hour and a half away so we drove down for the evening. My dad’s family is very big and it’s rare we are all together in one place so it’s always nice to see everyone. It rained most of the drive home and I was exhausted and pretty sure I fell asleep the second my head hit the pillow. Sunday we ran errands and then I went to Kristina’s Scentsy party in the afternoon. I bought the cutest new warmer for the master bedroom and a few deliciously scented car fresheners. The rest of the evening was for some much needed relaxing.

Monday was a happy mail day because these hoodies I ordered for Ares and Chaos arrived. They fit perfectly and are so adorable I can barely stand it. The boys love them so much and were glad to show them off on our evening walk. I can’t wait to wear mine too and match them!

It’s been gloomy and rainy here for the second day in a row and it makes me want to snuggle up and watch movies all day. No such luck since apparently there are these crazy grown up responsibilities which require me to go to work. The good news is Halloween is special at my office. Everyone dresses up and there are prize categories with judges and everything. It’s an 80s theme so my department is making our area into an arcade with glow in the dark signs, props and costumes. I was never into video games let alone able to play them in the 80s (I was born in ’87) so I had to look up my character to plan my costume. Luckily all I need is a pink dress and a crown and those were easy to come by. I can’t wait to see it all come together on Friday!

I hope you all are having a spooky and fun Halloween week with Hocus Pocus on repeat and candy everywhere!

New House News

Late last Friday night I was sitting on the couch watching Scrubs on Netflix, half falling asleep, when Chris walked in the door. It was the perfect start to the weekend. I’ve been hinting at it the last few posts but I’m now officially sharing that we found a new house and are set to close in a few weeks. Chris had only seen the house from the pictures in the listing and the ones I took when I went to see it before putting in an offer. Saturday we headed over to see it along with my parents, Chris’s dad and brother. The new home we are purchasing is owned by a relocation company so an inspection had already been done but I wanted the guys to double check everything. We even sent Chris to the attic to make sure there wasn’t anything living up there. Luckily, there wasn’t. It was a chilly fall day and standing in the backyard I could picture us being out there with the dogs and our family and friends.

Sunday we took a trip to a local pumpkin patch and went out into the field to pick some big pumpkins. And of course we said hello to all the farm animals and bought my most favorite apple cider ever. It pairs amazingly well with a  little maple flavored whiskey if you’re looking for a sweet fall cocktail. Slice up some thin pieces of honey crisp apple and you’re good to go.

We celebrated our niece Miyah’s 3rd birthday in the afternoon with family and even though they were serving chili they made mac n’ cheese for this vegetarian. Our gift to the birthday girl was a toy dog park with these fat little puppies that sort of waddle around. She and her cousin were so cute playing with it together and doing a pretty good job of sharing! It’s really hard to share when you’re 3.

And what better way to end the weekend than with snuggles? I went to get Ares for bedtime and he did the sweetest thing. I told Chris to hurry with my phone and take a picture. Immediately after this picture was snapped he popped right up. At least I had that fleeting moment.

Is it Friday yet? Nope. Okay, happy Tuesday!

Sweater Weather is Better Weather

Growing up in NKY I've always had the experience of 4 distinct seasons every year. As much as I love that we have true Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, sometimes I wish for a little more Fall. I think we are all clear that it's my favorite season by now. But as the leaves change and the air cools, it has me thinking of all the reasons I love it so much.

Sweaters.
I love both the feel and look of a cute, cozy sweater and around here, Fall is when we break them out to start wearing. Oversized, cardigans, turtlenecks, dressed up or dressed down, I love them all. Some of my favorites this season are this one and this from J. Crew Factory that I scored for 50% off last weekend and this one from Urban Outfitters because the lace detail is too fun.

Blanket Scarves.
A stylish accessory that is also practical? Yes, yes and hell yes. I love adding color or interest to an outfit just by tossing on a scarf. Fall is perfect for wrapping up in a blanket scarf over a top or sweater without having to wear a coat just yet. I will always love plaid like this one and this one, which are super deals if ask me, and I recently wore this one to a wedding because it was chilly that day.

Flannel.
Flannel has been around forever and will probably always remind some people of their grandpa or a country boy. It's trendier some years than others but overall it's pretty classic. I'm sure I've always had at least one flannel shirt in my closet. I think now I'm almost in the double digits but who's counting? Some new favorites are this one from AE that's incredibly soft and has a boyfriend fit, this one for the super steal and this dress that it just the perfect length.

I love watching the trees change each day on our walks and the crunch the fallen ones make under my feet. Chaos likes to eat them. I love the smell of a bonfire in the cool evening air and roasting marshmallows for s'mores. I love snuggling under the covers on Sunday mornings and pumpkin spice lattes on trips to the pumpkin patch. And I will love sitting on the deck watching my boys play in our soon to be new backyard.

Happy weekend my friends!

What's Happenin' Wednesday

So much is going on around here I don’t even know which way to look! A week from the day we got the offer on the condo, our offer for a new home was accepted. I’m knee deep in all the paperwork and e-mails that come with selling and buying homes but I am grateful we have some really good people to work with. Once this is all said and done I’ll go into more detail on our experiences and things you might want to know if you’re headed down this road in the near future. I really wish I would have known a lot of things beforehand but, as always, hindsight is 20/20.

Over the weekend my mama had a birthday and my sister was in town. We went shopping with her Sunday and had dinner at Terry’s Turf Club where you can get ginormous burgers with a million toppings (or portabella mushrooms for the non-meat eaters). I literally couldn’t eat it stacked with all the toppings so I had to improvise. It was messy but so worth it.

We are back to the weekly grind and already wishing for Friday. Chris will be home for good and that is definitely a happy thought. Although this cooler weather really makes for nicer evening walks with the boys so I can’t complain too much. Plus I found straws with bats on them literally from like 4 years ago that I bought at the dollar store. I’m 28 and I was pretty excited to stick one in my iced coffee Sunday morning. It’s the little things. And speaking of little things, we had a few small holes in our screen door from last year. Saturday morning as I was getting ready to clean I walked by and saw Little O escape through a hole in the screen like some kind of Houdini cat-tortionist. He just stood there and looked at me and of course I ran out and scooped him up. I dashed off to get duct tape and by the time I came back this is what I saw.

Don’t worry I did a quick hillbilly fix and there have not been anymore hilarious incidents. Seriously we could save the world with duct tape one piece at a time.

At least the rest of the fur gang hasn’t been into mischief. Ares was too busy watching Big Bang Theory during the coveted couch time. It looks sweet but he wasn’t actually snuggling me, he just wanted the best view of the TV. He tried the other end first but I guess my legs were in the way. They drive me nuts, crack me up and melt my heart all at the same time.

Fall Fridays

It has been one hell of a week. The kind when you walk out the door on Friday wondering if your brain is even still working or your body is just on autopilot. Between work and life in general my head is kind of spinning. Don’t worry, most of it is all for the good. Since it’s Friday and the prospect of weekending gives everyone heart eyes, let’s do some Fall favorites.

As you well know by now Friday afternoons are Starbucks treat time for me. You know what makes it even better? The most adorable crochet cozy ever from Knot Unraveled. Mine is currently not available but there are so many other cute ones to choose from!

Today I was feeling an iced cinnamon chai latte but last week I had the caramel apple spice. It was totally worth the 360 calories it packs because it literally tastes like heaven.

I opened a new bag of Fruitables for Ares & Chaos last night and I could almost see the cartoon hearts floating around their heads when they smelled the pumpkin apple flavor. Chaos is especially a total Fall baby. He turns 3 next month!

Distressed denim will probably forever be on my list of favorites. This pair is so insanely comfortable I think I could probably sleep in them. The wash is really cool and the rips are in all the right places.

Even though I’ve not had much time lately for trying new recipes, I am determined to make this pumpkin cheesecake dip. Seriously, it needs to happen. I may even eat it all myself.

I have been drooling over this sweatshirt since it was released with the Fall line and yesterday finally pulled the trigger and ordered it. Scrolling through my IG feed I saw 20% off today only and rushed over to the site to get my discount. But wait, it gets better. They aren’t out yet but Hello Apparel has partnered with one of our favorite pet brands Lucy& Co. to make this very same sweatshirt for dogs. Shut up. I can’t even handle it. You can bet I will be stalking their IG account to see when it’s coming out and probably be the first insane dog lover to purchase one for each of my boys. Matching pics to come.

Hope you had a fantastic Friday muffins!
