Although the past several weeks have been so busy for me, I didn’t actually intend to take a hiatus from sharing with you all. The wireless router in my condo decided one evening to just stop working. We tried all the usual stuff like unplugging it and resetting it and it just wasn’t even getting any power. Chris called tech support and after a frustrating 20 minutes of getting nowhere he decided to just tell the guy it worked. I mentioned the situation to my boss and she said if we just took the old router up to the actual cable store that they would exchange it for a new one free of charge. Chris did just that but when he got home and plugged it in..nothing. Reluctantly, he called tech support again and they finally figured out that he was actually given a new modem instead of a new router. So, back to the store. This time the new router worked when it was plugged in, because it was actually a router. But the problem is that the signal continues to go in and out. We are working on that but needless to say, I am glad to be able to use my laptop at home again!
So much has happened while I’ve been “away”. We’ve been feeling the summer temperatures so we take our walks later in the evening and stop for breaks under big shady trees. We try to keep Chaos out of the grass as much as possible so he doesn’t get itchy and break out. But giving him breaks from the heat is more important, so he does get to lounge in the grass for a little bit.
If you aren’t from the Cincinnati area, you may not be privy to the slight obsession with goetta. I won’t touch that mushy looking stuff but Chris would eat it all day and every which way. And most people around here are right there with him. It’s so well loved that several places in the area have Goettafest each year to celebrate the love for this meat.
Ares and his cousin Rocky are gearing up for their summer social events and need some practice in big crowds. Well, mostly Ares needs practice staying calm and keeping that wild Boston Terrier energy in check. So, to Goettafest we went one Friday night down in the Mainstrausse Village.
The street is blocked off and vendors set up tents to sell all kinds of merchandise. There is live music and then of course the many stands serving goetta just about any way you could think to serve it. Lucky for me Tom+Chee had a booth so I was able to get their amazing but goetta free grilled cheese sandwich. Chris of course dined on a big juicy goetta burger.
Ares and Rocky met lots of people to fawn over their cuteness, other dogs also there to enjoy the evening out and do a little training in the process. We even met a little boy who just wanted to give the pups kisses. By the end of the night these guys were tired enough to lay under the table and relax.
It’s a good thing Ares slept soundly that night because the next morning we discovered another fun event on our walk. There is a large furniture store very near our complex and we walk through the parking lot daily on our walking route. As we came around the front we saw rows and rows of cars and people everywhere. It turns out there was a big car show going on and we didn’t even know about it. The boys were actually pretty interested in checking out all the cars. The firemen had their new fire dog there too. I always thought Dalmatians were the fire dogs but this little guy was a yellow lab. When we got home Ares and Chaos were ready for a nap.
Father’s Day was spent over at my parents’ house with the boys of course. We grilled out, talked wedding plans and Ares and Chaos did what they do best on Sundays: lounged. It’s nice living close to my parents so we can spend time with them often. And it’s a huge bonus that my mom is now so at ease with the dogs we can always bring them over to hang out too. Happy belated Father’s Day to all the daddies!
The last big thing I want to share about is our recent trip to a local bar for a great cause. There is a Pit Bull rescue in Cincinnati called Adore-A-Bull. Cute, right? We found out about an event they were holding at a dog friendly bar called Beer with your Best Friend. Of course being animal lovers and especially partial to bullies, Chris and I blocked out Sunday afternoon for the fundraiser and adoption event.
We weren’t the only people with that line of thinking because there were tons of people there to support the dogs. The rescue staff and foster parents had about 20 of the adoptable dogs there throughout the day so it was fun to see them all hanging out and meet them. Chris got a new T-shirt and I had a Salty Dog cocktail since the proceeds went to the rescue. It was definitely a great way to spend the afternoon and we hope to go back soon.
Last week we booked the photographer for or wedding and we were discussing what to do if it rains that day. Sure, we will hope and pray that it is beautiful out, but mother nature gives no guarantees, wedding or not. The main issue would be finding a pretty indoor spot where we can have the dogs. The bar we went to for the fundraiser was looking like a pretty good spot. The outdoor space is a courtyard but has large overhanging trees in the middle and is actually covered on either side. It’s a very pretty setting and would have nice backgrounds to photograph against. And of course the most important thing is that they allow dogs. So I guess our outing even served a practical purpose to get in some wedding planning.
I hope you and your furbabies are staying cool this summer and getting out there and having fun. I promise I will not be gone for so long again, baring our internet signal stays in long enough for me to post!
