Since the unexpected hiatus last month, you’ve missed several Sleepy Sundays. So I’m sure you all want a little recap. And even if you don’t, you’re getting one!
Even if our Sundays aren’t always so sleepy, we try to make it a day to spend time together. Chris recently started a new job and had a complete change of schedule to second shift. He was getting used to it the first couple weeks so one Sunday morning I got up and made a breakfast feast.
As I’ve said before, if given the choice, Ares will choose to be with Chris and Chaos will choose to be with me. So that morning Ares and Chris slept in and Chaos and I played music and slaved over hash brown casserole, goetta, eggs and maple sausage pancake muffins. Okay Chaos just provided moral support from the hallway. It was my first time making the casserole and muffins so I was pretty pleased with how they turned out. And Chris was pleasantly surprised when he woke up to all those yummy smells awaiting him.
When it’s nice out we like to go out for long walks together. If I’m up first I send the boys in to wake up dad. It’s hard to say no to waggly tails and sloppy kisses. Alarm clocks won’t give you that.
We walk through the NKU campus nearly every day, but one day we discovered something new. The sidewalk took a beating over the winter so there was a backhoe parked in the grass to work on fixing it. When we came through the boys were fascinated by this yellow contraption. Just for kicks we let them explore to see how they would react.
Ares promptly lifted his leg on the tire. Great. And then he was just determined to climb up the machine somehow. His little legs just wouldn’t reach. So we gave him a boost.
Of course Chaos then became quite interested. So Chris scooped him into the bucket. We thought for sure he would just try to jump down. But instead he thought it was a pretty good time. And then Ares had to get in the bucket too. Such little clowns.
We try to go early to walk in the summer on the weekends so we can beat the heat. But sometimes it starts to warm up before our walk is over so we need to take shady breaks. Ares flops down for belly rubs and Chaos stretches out to feel the cool concrete on his tummy.
Just this past Sunday we took a little drive over to our favorite park for a morning walk. We like to do the 5k trail around the whole property. It’s good exercise with hills and curves around the scenic route.
We were surprised to be some of the only people out since it was a pretty nice morning for a walk. Of course that just made it easier to stop for some photo ops. Most of the time it’s pretty easy to get the boys’ attention for pictures since they are so used it. But sometimes they seem to forget their names and just keep looking in the other direction like I’m not even there. They are so cute I’ll take pictures even if they won’t look at me.
How have you been spending weekends with your family?
As always, I love hearing from you at hilarykennedy1824@gmail.com.
