I joke that it’s my furbabies’ world and Chris and I just live in it. Most of the planning and schedule making does revolve around the furry members of our family, but we do try to enforce rules and make it known we are in charge. Try being the operative word there. But sometimes I think each the furry kids actually lives in his or her own world and just visits our reality from time to time.
Princess Piper spends her days lounging in the sun, treating herself to long, luxurious baths and staring down at her subjects, daring them to cross her. Every so often the need to remind someone she is boss will drive her to hiss at, growl at or bop a passerby on the nose for no other reason at all. Do not wake her from her beauty slumber, especially if she is cozy under the bed, or you just might get exiled.
Ares spends most of his time in AreBear Land where he is Sir Snortsalot and has all kinds of royal business to attend to. Like diligently licking his paws clean just the way he learned from his brother O, continuously flopping around on the rug on his back while snorting in a glorious back scratching session and of course making rounds throughout the kingdom with his sidekick blue blankie. All are allowed to look but cannot touch blankie without his highness’s permission . It’s serious business but all in a day’s work for the little prince.
Chaos World is the exact opposite of what the name would suggest. The big guy of the bunch prefers to chomp on one of his many toys or bones while stretched out on one of his many dog beds. Treats and cuddles are expected just for being so darn cute and mommy’s lap is always available to snuggle up in, well, as much of him will fit. He is kind and playful when someone enters his world and greets them with kisses and waggles. Don’t worry if you see him carrying around O in his mouth, he’s just moving his cat to a more desirable location.
Orion’s namesake a hunter and the hunt is always on in his mind. For caps, that is. Whether it’s a beer bottle cap, a milk jug cap or a pen cap, his mission is to get it down from whenever it is and then bat it all around the floor in a never ending game with himself. His other hobbies include scaling the screen door and shower curtain, chasing bugs and knocking over anything in his path and trying to butt into Piper’s domain when he thinks she isn’t looking. The intrusion is always promptly dismissed. But that doesn’t dampen his spirit because he can always go back to the bottle cap hunt.
Do you think your pets have their own little realities too?
