Apparently Winter got mad with all this talk about “if it’s not going to snow, then c’mon Spring”. So Winter went ahead and showed up this week.
After our snow day on Monday we got hit with another round of the fluffy white stuff Wednesday morning. It took me nearly 2 hours to get to work and the roads were terrible. I was glad to be driving an SUV and lucky enough not to see any accidents but I white knuckled it most of the drive none the less.
Our complex sits on top of a hill that winds back and forth. The road it leads to is a connector road between 2 major ones but it goes up another pretty steep hill to reach the intersection at the top. I was glad I was able to make it down our hill and then up the next one. There was so much snow on the ground it was hard to see lanes at all.
After the snow was done piling up the temperature dropped and we ended up in the negatives overnight and into yesterday morning. Last night it reached -10 degrees and this morning it had only “warmed up” to -7. Holy crap it’s cold out.
The cats with their furry coats don’t seem to mind but Ares and Chaos are far less than thrilled. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them do their doggie business outside so fast. We are keeping them in hoodies even in the house and giving them extra blankets to sleep with. They drag them around everywhere and have spent more time snuggling this week than playing.
Even though there’s been a lot of snow on the ground we still did our daily walk twice this week. Tuesday and Wednesday weren’t too cold and the sun was out so we bundled up and made the trek. But wow that was one hell of a workout on Wednesday. Last year we had a lot more winter days of snow but it was hard packed and we mostly walked on top of it. This snow was light and fluffy and most of the sidewalks we take were not cleared. So every step I took I would sink down several inches. It felt more like marching with ankle weights on than walking. My legs were burning by the time we got back home and sore yesterday. I highly recommend it as a killer lower body workout.
On the positive side, the snow does make for some pretty scenery. I was also excited to really test out my new Sorel snow boots I got for Christmas. I finally got them snow covered and they are awesome! Not only do they keep my feet toasty and warm, they march across snowy sidewalks like a champ and keep me from falling on the ice and embarrassing the boys.
We are forecasted to get another 5-8 inches of snow tonight with a wintry mix tomorrow. I certainly have grown up with cold, snowy winters here in Northern Kentucky but this is a lot of snow. I see our weekend mostly spent at home playing in the snow, eating homemade snow cream and snuggling on the couch.
Have a wonderful winter weekend!
