Life has literally been like riding a roller coaster lately.
I’m sure some of you are shaking your heads because you know exactly what I’m
talking about. Among Chris’s crazy work schedule, our (thankfully now FORMER)
condo buyer being a total pain about the contract release, a huge work project
for me, so much rain and an oven fire, there really are still so many good
things. It is so much nicer to focus on the positives than the negatives. Easier
said than done, I know, I know. Don’t worry I’ll go first and then you have to
promise to follow suit.
There are no words to describe how grateful I am to have
such a strong support system. Chris was gone all week but my sister flew in
from her temporary home in Colorado and my parents took us out for a nice
Friday night. The rain moved out just in time for us to enjoy rooftop cocktails
overlooking the city. When I came home I was greeted with some sweet sloppy
kisses from Ares and Chaos, the perfect way to end the night.
Saturday morning I was up bright and early to clean, clean,
clean for a showing in the afternoon. My new vacuum and steam mop seriously cut
down the time I used to spend sweeping and mopping and dare I say it’s a little
bit fun now?! No, not enough that I want to come clean your house too. When everything
was sparkling and in order the boys and I went out to spy on the potential
buyers from the car before our walk. I know it’s a little creeper style but
after our last experience I really wanted to at least check out who was looking
at our place. Ares and Chaos went into total stealth mode.
But unfortunately we
never saw anyone come. Turns out the showing agent was new and didn’t cancel the
appointment after finding out there were steps to our unit that his client did
not want. I was a little upset because I had worked so hard to get everything ready
and was excited about starting over. But then I found out Chris was coming home
that night so it turned my frown upside down. I also discovered that night how
to make the easiest skinny pina colada-esque cocktail. It was my mom’s idea, I
just actually tested it out. Since I love La Croix sparkling water and I said I
wanted to try the coconut flavor she suggested I add pineapple vodka. Rum would
work too but if you like the coconut/pineapple flavor combo and don’t mind that
it’s not a blended 500 calorie drink, you should give this a try. I just poured
a shot of vodka and maybe half a can of coconut La Croix into a mason jar and added ice.
Sunday we were going to take it easy for real. Usually
Sleepy Sundays consist of being lazy all day for the furballs but us humans
still do some cleaning/organizing/running around. We gave the dogs baths but
spent most of the morning relaxing. We made one quick stop at the store later
on before heading to my parent’s house to hang with them and my sister for a
bit. I had made homemade calzones the night before and Chris wanted that for
dinner again so on the way home we picked up the ingredients and the sun even
came out for us. I made up the calzones and turned the oven to pre-heat. I was in another room so I went back to check if it was ready because I didn’t hear
the beep. That’s when I saw smoke coming out of the back burner. When I opened
the oven door I saw what looked like someone stuck a sparkler in the bottom. I
quickly shut the door, turned the oven off and called for Chris. I kept the
furballs back while our very own fire fighter killed the flame with baking soda
and water. It was a little scary but everyone was fine. Chris pulled the oven
out and unplugged it and when it cooled down we were able to see that a piece
of the tube had actually broken off, causing the fire. Good news: It was put
out quickly and no one was hurt or anything else damaged. Plus we found out we
could just replace the baking piece for about $50. I definitely had a few beers
after that though!
Even though our failed condo sale had to drag out for 2
weeks before our buyer finally signed the release, I had a huge work project,
it rained, and rained, and rained, Chris was gone all week and our oven caught
fire, it wasn’t all bad. I also somehow managed to finish our thank you cards
for the wedding and even though Chaos is surrounded by all his enemy allergens,
his medicine has been working like a charm to keep him nearly reaction free. The
sun is out today and the All-Star game is tonight in Cincy. Plus, I’m having a
really good hair day! A legitimate cute bed head look that I didn’t have to do
anything to achieve. It will never happen again I’m sure! What is your list of
positives?
