It was quite a whirlwind of a weekend for us over here. As
you all know, Chris and I been trying to sell our condo since March to buy our
first house together. Just 4 weeks after it first went on the market we thought
we had gotten lucky with a buyer in place and shortly afterward, found a home
we wanted to purchase. But after weeks of too many unexpected disappointments,
it all fell apart in June. Finally we are happy to say we have another contract
with a buyer and this time things are looking much better.
You know the saying “be careful what you wish for”? Well we
wanted to get another buyer this fall so badly because otherwise we would most likely
have to take the condo off the market until prime time season next Spring. But
now that we have one, we have less than 2 weeks to find a house we want to buy
and get a contract going so the loan process can start again. We have until
November 15th to close and move out. Yikes! And of course, there’s
another twist in the plot. Chris is finishing up one last big job for the road
construction season and he left this morning for West Virginia for nearly 2
weeks. It’s now up to me to find us a new home! Talk about pressure.
So let me back up for a minute. The condo offer came in on
Friday morning. It just so happened that it turned out to be one of the busiest
work days I’ve had all year. Between trying to field work calls and e-mails I
was attempting to read over the contract and sign and initial as necessary for
our counter offer. When the clock struck 4 o’clock (quitting time for me) I was
relieved to walk out the doors of my office. It was a chilly and rainy evening
but the wonderful news that the buyer had accepted our counter offer came in a
few hours later so we went to dinner to celebrate. Wine and potato soup are
heavenly on a cold, wet night. And then the reality of the situation sunk in.
Saturday morning we ran around trying to get our normal
weekend things done before an afternoon wedding we were attending. There was
barely enough time to scope out the internet for houses to schedule showings at
to begin our new home search. Thankfully the rain stopped by early afternoon
but it was still cold and windy and the reception was outside. I have never
been happier that blanket scarves are in style. Even though we were under a
giant tent with some heaters, it took a while for the body heat to bring the
temperature up and I always run cold so I never did take that scarf off.
Sunday we began the house hunt but unfortunately came up
empty handed. Over beers and pizza last night Chris and I found some more
prospects while looking at listings online but it will be up to me to judge
them in person. We are cautiously optimistic that this time around will be so
much better than last time. It is our dream to give the dogs a yard of their
own to play in (or lay in for Chaos) and have more space for everyone. Here’s
to hoping with a little luck and a lot of prayers we can make that dream come
true by next month!
